GREENWICH, CT – The Convent of the Sacred Heart School in Greenwich, CT has broken ground on a new 42,000 SF Athletic Complex. The Complex will include a large double-court Gymnasium that will have an added use for all-school gatherings, capable of handling of up to 1,300 people. In addition, there will be six international size squash courts, a dance and yoga studio, training facility, fitness room, and team room as well as offices, locker rooms and support spaces. An expanded dining hall and new student servery as well as a new maintenance facility are also included in the project.
JGRA sited the Athletic Complex to create a spacious outdoor commons, moving vehicular circulation to the perimeter of the campus. The outdoor commons will feature an amphitheater classroom, play areas and a dining plaza, complete with a water feature and exterior fireplace. The Barat house day-care/preschool building will get a safe drop-off zone to the rear of the building away from moving vehicles.
After encountering and resolving a number of challenging sub-grade earth issues, including the remains of a turn of the century structure that had burned down and then been buried, the foundations are complete and the steel frame is almost complete. From the vantage point of the Main Building, the students and faculty will be able to observe the daily progress of the construction throughout the school year. It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm on the faces of the school community.
